Birthday doilies

Yeah!!  A four-day weekend - I got to "play" today.

My Mom's birthday (and a few other special women) is coming up.  This will be for her.  My mom and I share the same birthday!!  I was a very special gift for her - at least so she says.  :)

I used the Retro Sketch Challenge and colors from The Play Date Cafe challenge .  The peachy and aqua colors are my mom's favorites.  In fact I just picked up a sweater and scarf set for her birthday, with these colors.  How great is that the card will coordinate!!

I'll also put this into the 52 - Card Pick Up challenge as my card-making time is limited.

supplies:
  • cardstock: PTI
  • stamps: My Mind's Eye
  • other: scallop die: PTI; button: Stampin Up, lace: JoAnn's; white embossing powder; ink: Stampin Up
Thanks for looking!

Sending Prayers

The challenge this week at Less is More is to use
Brown & Pink

I used this sketch from the Clean and Simple blog

and I embossed the rectangle area for One Layer Wednesday (OLW) being hosted by Karen at Snippets -

I wanted to create an illusion of a sunset on the border, with the color going from brown to pink. . .  It's ok, of course it looked much better in my mind than it does on paper.

Here are a few snapshots of how I accomplished the outer area with the embosssing:

This may be my last post for a bit.  School starts tomorrow.  It's been a great summer!

supplies:
  • stamps & paper: PTI
  • ink: PTI and Stampin Up and Staz-On
  • butterfly: stamped with Staz-On and colored with copic - a bit of glitter on the front
Thanks for looking and your lovely comments.

Rats!

I do have a stash of cards - most of them on the feminine side.  So when my nephew-in-law's birthday came up, I did not really have a card for him.  I've had this stamp for quite a while now, and have always wanted a chance to use it.  Here is that chance :)

I used sketch from Freshly Made Sketches and the colors from Play Date Cafe .

Patrice over at The Old Back Porch has some great photography going on.  She also has a 52 - Card Pick Up Challenge going on. . .  to make one card a week for 52 weeks.  Now on Tuesday, I am going back to work (I am a teacher).  So my time for card-making will become very limited.  I am not a fast creator.  Ideas need to mull around in my head for a while.  I start and stop my creations - sometimes they come out like the ideas in my head. . . sometimes not.   Anyway the reason I told you all this is, that I think the challenge of one card a week (for the rest of the school year) will be a good one for me :)

On a personal note: (skip if you'd like)
Now it is Labor Day Weekend - a big BBQ weekend.  Hubby got a call to invite us to a Q and bring a side dish.  Me, I am not much of a cook, and I would just go to the local deli and get some type of salad.  My husband really does not cook - except for an awesome breakfast, and to BBQ what I put before him.  Once in a great while, he will get the urge to cook.  And that is happening now, while I write this post.  Here is the photo of his finished creation:

Here is the link for the recipe: Festive Pasta Salad - he said to let you know the tomatoes were his own idea :)
Looks yummy, and tastes good too!
